Abandoned and / or Liberated
I’ll Give You Something to Cry About
64” x 60” acrylic, oil pastel and graphite on canvas
Arts Alive! Saturday, May 2nd from 6-9 pm at Uncoded Studio 524 5th st. Eureka, CA.
From the Artist:
These paintings are a lifelong season. A provocative, untethered push for understanding. An amalgamation of refractory forces stitched together by feel, by memory and by longing. They are cracks in the pavement, flowers at the most pinnacle hour, fear, unknowing, and a cacophony of heartstrings inherently intertwined. While each painting stands alone in its intention, they are, at large, an attempt at relation—at a markable, poignant breath of belonging.
Bio:
Matthew Rowe (b. 1987) is an artist, poet, and builder currently living in Arcata, CA. His paintings are inspired by the landscapes he interacts with, by worlds in which he has lived—the vast and rural hollows of the Mojave Desert, the voracious speed and electricity of New York City, and all the peculiar spaces in between. Working predominantly in acrylic, oil pastel and graphite, with loose—sometimes aggressive—intuitive brushstrokes, strikes, and markings, Matthew efficaciously expresses the nuances of the world around him in abstract form.
